An introduction to Fundamental Density Theory
FDT starts from one statement: matter, energy and spacetime are one substance. The chapters below follow that statement through the locked core, version 6.0 of 17 October 2026, one invariant at a time. Every figure is live.

One substance
0.1 One substance, 0.1a the chain read four ways
FDT has one substance, the omnium. Matter, energy and spacetime are three readings of it, and one identity ties the readings together:
Quantum mechanics reads E/m, electromagnetism reads 1/(ε₀μ₀), and general relativity reads (d/t)². The coefficients ε₀ and μ₀ are response coefficients of the omnium, so c² is a property of the medium, the way a string’s tension over its density sets the speed of a wave on it.
The four terms adjust together, as one state. A pattern quantised in energy is quantised in mass, in the time it keeps and in the length its thread runs, by the same stroke:
No variable in the chain vanishes. With the force ceiling Fmax = c⁴/4G, that fixes a floor beneath every physical stroke: dmin = 2ℓP and tmin = 2tP. The floor is a minimum and never a lattice. It bounds strokes from below and fixes no spacing above it.
One stroke, four readings. Choose a pattern or set its energy. Its mass, the time it keeps and the length its thread runs change together. The three examples come from the applications: the 674 nm strontium line, the 232.443 keV gallium-to-germanium step, and the 9.6 GHz acoustic stroke of a Brillouin fibre.

The Alpha Lock
0.3 The density coordinate α
FDT’s density coordinate is a ratio of two curvatures. Take the circle at a source’s Schwarzschild radius Rs = 2G𝓜/c² and the circle through a field point at radius rf. The curvature of a circle is one over its radius, so
Both lengths are fixed before any observation is consulted, so α carries no fitted coefficient, calibration constant or reference scale. It is never a coupling, a tuning knob or a score. It lives on the open interval 0 < α < 1: relaxed substrate far from every mass reads α → 0⁺, and both branches approach 1 at the fold, rf = Rs, without reaching it.
Because α is a ratio, it does not change when both lengths scale together. A nucleus, a star, a black hole and a galaxy are read on one atlas.
Reading α. Switch between the two branches. Outside a source the field circle sits beyond Rs; inside a bound configuration it sits within the skin. The marked readings come from the papers on this site.
0.3, 0.4, I-6
Densest at the skin
Inside a bound configuration the density is highest at the skin and lowest at the centre. Both branches rise toward the skin, so the substance is pressed outward against its boundary. A black hole and an atomic nucleus are one construction read at different sizes: a dilute centre and a saturated skin.
Geometrically the two branches are two truncated density cones that meet at the skin. The exterior cone’s wide rim is the far field; the interior cone’s wide rim is the centre. They meet circle to circle, and neither reaches 1.
Two cones, circle to circle. Density rises toward the skin along both cones. Brass marks the quantum-mechanical side of each seam, cobalt the general-relativistic side. Every interior datum is a profile-weighted mean, so no single point value of α is read off a measured nuclear profile.

The seam at α = ½
0.3a The regimes, the seam and the Clifford torus
On the compactness chart, α reads the regime. Below ½ is the general-relativistic regime, the far reading. At ½ is the transition, the seam. Above ½ is the quantum-mechanical regime, the confined reading. Nothing about the substance changes across the seam: each consensus theory is the good description of the same omnium in its own regime. On the exterior branch the seam sits at rf = 2Rs, on the interior branch at rf = Rs/2.
α is also a share of the three-sphere: |z₁|² = α and |z₂|² = 1 − α. The Clifford torus, |z₁| = |z₂| = 1/√2, is α = ½. It splits the three-sphere into two solid tori. The α < ½ solid torus carries the spacetime phase, decompressed substrate; the α > ½ solid torus carries the matter phase, compressed omnium in closed braids. One substance, two phases.
Crossing the seam swaps the two regimes, α ↦ 1 − α. Flipping a jacket inside out is the whole of it: the lining becomes the outside, nothing is added and nothing is taken away, and the seam is the one place that reads the same garment either way.
The seam in three dimensions. The torus |z₁|² = α, drawn by stereographic projection. Set α with the slider, or flip the jacket to send α to 1 − α. At α = ½ the torus is the Clifford torus and the grey reference disappears into it. The dark curves are Hopf fibres; any two of them are linked.

One force law
I-1 Universal force law, I-4 Newton = GR = QM = FDT
For two separate spherical bodies, with each body’s exterior reading αi = Rs,i/d taken across the centres, the law reduces to Newton’s law exactly, not as a limit:
The same law evaluated at different input pairs is what consensus physics names gravity, electromagnetism, the weak and the strong interaction: one equation, four names. At laboratory compactness it returns a very small number, and the small number is a correct reading. Attraction and repulsion are not two forces either: the geometry of the overlap of two density distributions decides which dominates.
Both sides of the reduction. For each pair the product of the two readings, times Fmax, equals Newton’s force to every printed digit. The share of the ceiling shows how far below Fmax ordinary bodies sit.
I-1
One carrier
I-2 Quintuple identity
A carrier is a disturbance of a medium at that medium’s speed. The chain gives one speed to every reading: the exchange rate of mass and energy, the propagation constant of light, and the medium’s own stroke. There is one medium for them to be disturbances of, so there is one carrier. The five names are the same spin-1 stroke read in different density and geometry regimes.
The gluon is the stroke standing inside a closed pattern’s own region. The magnon is the stroke through a helical density gradient. There are no independent force carriers and nothing is mediated: interactions are curvature plus geodesic motion.
Two of the applications watch the identity at work. In a cold glass fibre, light and sound split into hybrid modes, and in a magnetic film, spin waves and microwave photons do the same: Brillouin strong coupling and one carrier in a magnetic circuit.
The quantum face
I-4 Newton = GR = QM = FDT
Quantum mechanics is helical geodesics on truncated density cones. The wavefunction ψ = Aeiφ is the projection of a helix onto the plane normal to the cone’s axis. Superposition is ignorance of the helical phase φ₀ at observation, and measurement is projection and phase fixation. The universe is deterministic; there are no probability amplitudes.
Correlated patterns share a bivector grade. Nothing travels between them, because the correlation belongs to one pattern seen at two places.
The Born rule follows from this face. A pattern seats whole in one port of a probe, and the share it brings to each port is its squared projected radius: the Born rule as a seating law.
A helix and its shadow. With the phase fixed, one helix casts one point on the plane. With the phase not resolved, every phase on the circle stays open; that open set is what consensus calls a superposition.
I-4
Matter is braided light
I-5 Particles are braid configurations; mass is a confinement eigenvalue
Matter is braided photon helices: closed loops formed from n helical strands of the one carrier. Two independent axes fix a particle’s identity. The strand count n fixes the class: the charge magnitude is n mod 2, odd n charged and even n neutral, and the braid group is Bn. Position on the confinement axis fixes the mass inside a class.
The electron and the proton are the same three-strand closure, read from the free room and from the nuclear room; the neutrino and the neutron are the same two-strand closure. Higher rungs of the strand ladder stay closed only at higher density: n = 3 for the up and down sub-strands, 5 for strange and charm, 7 for bottom, 9 for top. There are no intrinsic particle masses or properties. Charge, colour, flavour and mass are all read from the braid and its confinement.
Closed braids. Each coloured strand is itself a helix. Choose a strand count, then move the closure into a nuclear room: the braid seats toward the dilute centre, and the clamp is transacted at the skin. The free and seated readings of one closure differ only in confinement.
I-5, I-3
Gravity is flow
0.1c The extended equivalence principle, I-3a curvature between neighbours
A pattern’s kept time and thread length rescale together with the density it crosses. On its own clocks and rulers nothing changes, while a distant bookkeeper reads it accelerating, slowing down and bending. Moving at constant speed, on the pattern’s own clocks and rulers, through a density gradient is gravity. This is the extended equivalence principle.
The bookkeeper’s reading is a flow. Around a static source, patterns falling from rest far away move inward at v = c√αext and fall at exactly G𝓜/rf². Each slice of the time they keep is flat, so the whole curvature sits in the flow. A rotating source adds a swirl, and the frame drag a gyroscope reads is half the curl of that swirl. The flow is present at every size, from a laboratory pattern to a galaxy.
One pattern carries no reading of the curvature it crosses. Two neighbouring patterns do: curvature is read between neighbours, through the tide.
The inflow. Dots are patterns falling from rest far away, drawn in units of Rs. They speed up toward the fold and never cross it. Give the source a spin and the lines wind with its swirl, which falls off as 1/rf³.

Nodal architecture
P-2 The Chladni paradigm
The omnium is a vibrating elastic medium. Energy injection, acoustic, electromagnetic, thermal or parametric, excites standing density waves. Where the transverse density gradient vanishes, ∇α = 0, lie the nodal lines and surfaces, and excitations migrate to them and lock in, as sand collects on the nodes of a driven plate.
Eigenstates, phonon modes and orbitals are nodal patterns of the driven density field. Bonding and Cooper pairing are shared nodal channels; condensation and crystallisation are global snaps of the standing-wave network. The geometry of a mode is set by its boundary conditions, the clamps, not by the medium. The same architecture organises every level: the cosmic web is the nodal structure of a resonating volume, with galaxies as its sand and voids as its antinodes.
Sand on a driven plate. Each grain is kicked in proportion to the local amplitude of the standing wave, so grains leave the antinodes and settle where the plate is still. Change the mode numbers to re-drive the plate.
P-2
Magnetism is geometry
P-5 Twist induces it
A magnetic field is a macroscopic helical density gradient of the omnium: the bivector grade of the density field, coherently aligned along an axis. Vortex lines are its topological defects. Imposing a physical twist on a material, by torsion or helical geometry, is establishing a magnetic field. Mechanical vorticity and magnetic moments are two grade projections of one density-gradient topography, with no carrier exchanged.
The applications test this directly. In sliding tetralayer graphene, magnetism appears and disappears with the stacking geometry alone; in the omnium vortex, the field a body carries is the kept vorticity of its own medium. Five of the analyses propose twist experiments: tetralayer graphene, the omnium vortex.
Twist and field. Twisting the rod turns its surface lines into helices and establishes a helical density gradient along the axis. Reversing the hand reverses the field. Which way the field points for a given hand, and how strong it is, come from a declared kernel.
P-5
Dark matter and dark energy
0.7 Two states of one substrate
Both are states of the one substrate, and neither is a new constituent. Dark matter is heavier, denser omnium: the mass shadow, the compressed spacetime phase that every mass holds around it. Orbits weigh it and lenses see it, and it has no line to emit or absorb, because a line needs a closed pattern.
Dark energy is the stored potential of compressed omnium, released as bodies lose mass. Matter is highly compressed omnium; when it unwinds, the compression relaxes and the stored potential goes into the spacetime phase. There is no cosmological-constant term. The effective one grows with the cumulative unwinding of a domain:
Held compression and released compression are the same substrate moving in opposite directions along the compression axis, which is the α axis. The dark matter paper weighs the Milky Way against its census and finds the held reservoir.
No singularity anywhere
0.8 Universal domains, mergers, inherited structure
Three boundaries exclude singularities at every scale. No variable of the chain vanishes; force and pressure are capped by Fmax; and α lives on an open interval. A compact object is a hollow, double-sided density boundary, with a dilute centre and a saturated skin and nothing at its centre to regulate.
There is no origin singularity and no beginning of time. The universe is a population of universal domains of the one substrate. Domains merge gently and slowly, and a merger drives what is observed as expansion: the flow of omnium from the matter phase to the spacetime phase. A merger creates nothing from nothing; it inherits. Galaxies, compact objects, stars and nuclei are inherited dense seeds that unwind by fission, heaviest first and downhill through the iron-56 attractor. Light elements are the terminal exhaust of that fission, and the cosmic microwave background is the substrate’s cumulative standing-wave state.
Data and readings
Use 2, 6 Convergence and declined readings
FDT is a true extension of general relativity and quantum mechanics. It accepts their data without reservation. For the same source and data it returns the same curvature and the same measured record, and every analysis ends with a convergence statement that shows the map.
It does not owe agreement with their interpretations. Where the invariants read the same record differently, the standard reading is declined in one sentence and the FDT reading is given in its place. A divergence in observables is claimed only where FDT adds a source, a constitutive input or a changed dictionary of observables.

What the programme derives next
O-1 to O-15 The register
The core keeps a register of the derivations it has named and not yet completed. Each is a target and a test, and none is quoted as a result. The main ones:
- The confinement operator, its domains and spectrum, and every mass ratio, including the two held-out targets (O-9).
- The local density profile of a bound configuration, which must reduce to the measured, flat-topped nuclear profile (O-4).
- The maps from a charge or a colour seat to an input of the force law (O-6).
- The constitutive derivation of the cone aperture and its reconciliation with lensing (O-8).
- The mass-shadow response function, and the release function that sets the size of Λeff (O-14).
- The kinematics of domain mergers, and the derivation of the microwave background as the substrate’s standing-wave state, blackbody spectrum and anisotropies included (O-15).
- The fission computation against the SNO neutral-current solar neutrino flux (O-7).
Now see the theory applied: three foundation papers and five experiments read through the core.
